Haley Umans is currently a first year Ph.D. student at Claremont Graduate University (CGU). She is a part of the Evaluation and Applied Research Methods program. Before attending CGU, Haley received a BS in Psychology and Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Denver (DU).

In Denver, Haley conducted research in youth development, specifically in regards to child health and development with children in high risk families at the Child Health and Development Lab at DU. Her research topics were focused on how demographic risk, the intergenerational effects of maternal adverse childhood experiences, cortisol regulation, toxic stress, and sleep played a role in youth development.

Haley joined YD Eval this fall. Since joining, Haley has become involved in the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Beyond the Bell after school sports program. She contributes to this project by conducting on-site observations and data entry. Haley is excited to part of a program that works towards positive youth development.

Haley decided to study evaluation to make a positive impact. Working for the betterment of youth with long term collaboration and program development is key to making that impact. Haley joined YD Eval not only to immerse herself in the practice of evaluation, but to work directly with the programs that works to provide high quality developmental opportunities to youth.

Besides being a part of YD Eval, Haley is actively expanding her evaluation education and experiences while engaging in research on evaluation. In her free time, Haley enjoys exploring the outdoors, travelling home to Chicago to eat deep dish pizza, and relaxing with her friends and family.
