Lingodhbhavamurti Sculpture
Description:
Birmingham Museum of Art returned an allegedly stolen sculpture of the Hindu deity, Shiva, to India. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security contacted the Birmingham Museum of Art in 2015 with evidence that the sculpture was illegally smuggled out of India as a part of a $100 million international smuggling racket organized by New York-based art dealer, Subhash Kapoor. The museum immediately began making arrangements for repatriation and returned it in 2018.
