Building a Positive Community

The purpose of Positive Fridays (affectionately called “TGIPF” for short) is to build community and share research knowledge among the positive psychology master’s and doctoral students in the Division of Behavioral and Organizational Sciences at Claremont Graduate University.

About once a month during the academic year, faculty, students, and invited guests will gather and discuss cutting edge research and application in the field of Positive Psychology.

The TGIPF Fellows are selected each year by the positive psychology faculty prior to the start of the Fall semester. Fellows will serve for one full year and complete a variety of duties in support of the TGIPF program.

Beyond the Individual: Peer Interactions as a Forum of Positive Development
Dr. Larson is Former President of the Society for Research on Adolescence and is a lifespan scholar who has done influential work on adolescent daily life and development, the family, and aging, including both basic and applied research. His research, supported by NIH, NIMH, and NICHD, has been summarized in scores of articles in Developmental Psychology, Child Development, Applied Developmental Psychology, and the major adolescence journals, and books including Being Adolescent and Divergent Realities.

Dr. Shane J. Lopez examines the measurement of wellbeing (youth and adult) as well as its economic implications.

Dr. Lopez is Senior Scientist in Residence at the Gallup Organization and Resident Director of the Clifton Strengths School. He specializes in hope and strengths enhancement for students from preschool through college graduation, advocating a whole-school strengths model that also builds the strengths expertise of educators, parents, and youth development organizations. He was also architect of the Gallup Student Poll.
