The Inland Cyber Defense Clinic attended The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics’ Research and Teaching Day, an event that brought together cybersecurity clinics from across the country to share ideas, lessons learned, and new approaches to clinic-based education.

This event felt especially relevant to ICDC because it focused directly on the cybersecurity clinic model. We had the chance to hear how other clinics are training students, working with clients, organizing projects, measuring impact, and supporting communities that often do not have access to affordable cybersecurity help.

One thing that stood out was how much clinics have in common, even when they are based at different universities or serve different types of communities. Many clinics are asking similar questions:

• How do we prepare students before they meet with clients?
• How do we make technical findings easy to understand?
• How do we balance learning outcomes with community impact?
• How do we make sure our work is useful, ethical, and sustainable?

For ICDC, the event was a reminder that cybersecurity clinics are part of a growing public-interest cyber movement. Clinics give students hands-on experience, but they also serve a larger purpose. They help small businesses, nonprofits, schools, and local organizations improve their cyber readiness in practical and accessible ways.

We learned a lot from hearing what other clinics are doing, especially around student mentorship, project structure, client communication, and long-term program growth. It was also encouraging to see how open the clinic community is to sharing resources and supporting each other.

ICDC left Research and Teaching Day feeling motivated and connected. We are proud to be part of a national network of cybersecurity clinics working to make cyber education more hands-on, community-centered, and impactful.
