The Inland Cyber Defense Clinic (ICDC) at Claremont Graduate University is an interdisciplinary center for cybersecurity education and applied research, founded by Dr. Chinazunwa Uwaoma. Rooted in CGU’s commitment to contextual and impactful scholarship, ICDC serves as a training ground for the next generation of cybersecurity professionals dedicated to protecting digital infrastructure across the Inland Empire and beyond.

Clinic Director

Dr. Chinazunwa Uwaoma leads the Inland Cyber Defense Clinic, a community-centered initiative that connects technology expertise with pressing cybersecurity challenges faced by local governments, non-profit organizations, and small businesses. Through customized, user-focused cybersecurity training, ICDC provides trainees with the skills and tools to shield vulnerable groups from cyber threats. This approach equips communities to safeguard themselves by meeting their unique digital security challenges in a world of rising cyber risks; and also creates meaningful partnerships between academia and local community stakeholders.

Dr. Uwaoma also directs the CGU’s Cybersectronics Lab, a hands-on research space where students design and optimize IoT systems with embedded cybersecurity principles. Her lab supports applied research in essential services such as healthcare, transportation, education, and agriculture, with ongoing projects addressing secure communications in health systems, Zero-Trust architectures, and security compliance in digital service delivery.

As a committed educator and mentor, Professor Uwaoma teaches applied cybersecurity and IoT courses that integrate coursework with professional certifications, allowing students to earn industry-recognized credentials as part of their coursework. These certifications enhance students’ cyber readiness and align their academic experience with the practical demands of the ever-changing cybersecurity industry.
