Yeah, in Swahili. I taught the gospel for a full year in Swahili in Tanzania. I served for a whole year. My first year in mission I served in Dar es Salaam. And it was Swahili. Singing in Swahili, praying in Swahili, everything in Swahili.
It works good for them because there are so many people. They speak Swahili all of them. But in Kenya, we are mixed up. And people are like, “If I am a Kamba, I have to know Kikamba, that is, my mother’s language for the first time. Kiswahili I can learn it in school or wherever. Because at home, we speak Kikamba.”
You find many words that are very difficult in Swahili. We speak Swahili, but sometimes you may not understand what I’ve said in Swahili.
My speaking mission actually I taught in Tanzania mostly, When I came to Kenya, I served in two areas. And I was done with my mission. So I never found people who were so hard to understand Swahili or English.
If I went to Kisumu, I would have found people that don’t even know Kiswahili so well because they are Luo people. Maybe English or Luo, they understand better. But for me, other languages, I’ve never had so much trouble.
