Suting (Lily) Chen

Lily is an Applied Social Psychology PhD student, advised by Dr. Wesley Schultz. Previously, she studied psychology and social ecology at the University of California, Irvine.

Presently, she is interested in understanding people’s judgement and behavior regarding sustainability and climate change through a social psychological lens. Specifically, she is interested in how ideological and political identity influences this process.

Fun fact: Lily used to be a game master in an escape room!

Jillian (JJ) Mueller-Dombois

JJ (any) is a second-year Applied Social Psychology Ph.D. student working under the guidance of Dr. Anna Woodcock. They previously studied psychology and creative writing at California State University, Long Beach.

Their research interests generally surround identity, stereotyping, and prejudice, intending to promote equity and inclusion in education and media.

Fun Fact: JJ loves sci-fi and horror comics, particularly the Nice House series and Saga.

Rai Ameli

Rai Ameli (she/her/they/them) is a second year PhD student studying Applied Social Psychology advised by Dr. Anna Woodcock with research interests in education, stereotype and bias reduction, labor, and value. Currently, Rai is working on research on how employers determine the value of the labor they pay for as well as assisting on research identifying factors that predict when police officers will use force.

Nahrie Chung Norvell

Nahrie is a PhD student in Positive Organizational Psychology advised by Dr. Wesley Schultz. She holds an MA in Organizational Psychology from Seattle Pacific University and a BA in Politics from Princeton University.

Nahrie is currently researching farmer decision-making in sustainable agriculture. Her research integrates food, land, and ecological stewardship, with the aim of making regenerative food systems more commonplace.

Fun fact: Nahrie grew up around nonstop classical music because her mother is a pianist.

Brian Cruse

As a Ph.D. student in Applied Social Psychology with a focus on conservation psychology, Brian’s current research explores the psychological drivers of sustainable behavior and how to design strategies that create lasting, meaningful change. Brian works with Dr. Wesley Schultz.

Michael Doty

Michael is a PhD student in the Applied Social Psychology program, working with Dr. Schultz. Michael earned his BA in Psychology from San José State University.

His research examines antecedents of pro-environmental behavior, with a focus on social influence, motivational processes, and individual characteristics.

Fun fact: Michael is a passionate rock climber, which sometimes leaves his fingertips unrecognizable to fingerprint scanners.

Harmony Frederick

Harmony is a PhD student in Applied Social Psychology working with Dr. Anna Woodcock. She focuses on academic and social identities related to higher education, specifically how these identities impact student retention and continued connection to institutions following graduation.

Annika Galvin

Annika is a PhD student in the Applied Social Psychology program with a co-concentration in Positive Organizational Psychology, working with Dr. Woodcock and Dr. Donaldson. Annika earned her BA in Psychology from Oregon State University with a minor in Business Administration and a certificate in Adventure Leadership.

Her research examines resilience and post-traumatic growth with a focus on group influence and bias reduction.

Fun fact: Annika is a wilderness first responder and loves most all outdoor recreation

Quinn James Hundgen

Quinn is a PhD student in the Applied Social Psychology program, and his advisor is Dr. Schultz. He got his bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Richmond.

Currently, Quinn is researching how relationship with nature impacts environmental behaviors. He is also interested in how integrating nature within our lives and environments can help create sustainable lifestyles.

Fun fact: Quinn grew up on two islands (In Florida and New York), accessible only by ferry!

Bliss Paik

Bliss is a PhD student in Applied Social Psychology advised by Dr. Hogg. She got her MS in Applied Psychology from USC.

Her research interests center around the intersection of language and identity. Currently, she is studying how threats to the status of English as a dominant language in the U.S. impacts acceptance of other languages.

Fun fact: Bliss is also a notary public in California

Mary Peterson

Mary got her BA in Psychology from Whitworth University, and her MA in Applied Social Psychology from CGU. She is a PhD student in the Applied Social Psychology program under advisor Dr. Michael Hogg.

Her research is broadly centered around the various factors related to group identification. Within this focus, she studies the individual and group characteristics that impact individuals’ identification with groups, schisms, and entitativity.

Fun fact: Mary used to be an instructor at a paint and sip art studio!

Alyssa Ream

Alyssa Ream is a fourth-year Applied Social Psychology Ph.D. student at Claremont Graduate University, working under the guidance of Dr. Anna Woodcock. She holds a master’s degree in Positive Developmental Psychology and Evaluation, also from Claremont Graduate University.

Alyssa is passionate about using scientific knowledge, behavioral methods, and statistics to address various societal issues, primarily focusing on evaluating the effectiveness of health and human service programs. Additionally, Alyssa is committed to advancing the understanding and inclusion of the mixed-race population. Her research focuses on exploring their experiences with social identity and their interactions within group processes and intergroup relations.

Fun fact: Alyssa rides a Harley Davidson motorcycle!

Feifei (Lily) Ren

Feifei (Lily) is an Applied Social Psychology PhD student under Dr. Wesley Schultz. She obtained a B.A. in Psychology from Cornell University, Ithaca.

Presently, she is interested in promoting pro-environmental behaviors and addressing sustainability challenges through social psychology. She is also interested in how climate change intersects with issues of environmental injustice affecting marginalized communities.

Fun fact: Lily has three pets and has a display closet for her figure collection.

Tehreem Riffat

Her research areas include minority influence and indirect attitude change.

I (she/her) am a Master’s student in Applied Social Psychology working under the guidance of Dr. Anna Woodcock. I earned my B.A. in Liberal Arts from Soka University of America.

My research interests focus on implicit bias feedback, specifically, how people respond to receiving it and how these responses influence their willingness to change their behavior.

Fun Fact: I’ve lived and studied in three different countries so far: Brazil, the U.S., and France, and along the way lived with many host families!

Kyra Warshaw

Kyra’s area of research is in environmental psychology; she studies social norms and how they influence conservation behaviors.

Sarah Zlatkovic

Sarah Zlatkovic is an advanced Evaluation and Applied Research Methods Ph.D. student working with Dr. Anna Woodcock. She holds an M.S. in Data Analytics from Oregon State University and an M.A. in Psychology from Claremont Graduate University.

Her research interests include social justice, issues related to social justice (bias/prejudice/discrimination, inclusion/exclusion, diversity, equity, othering, belonging), and the promotion of social justice through the practice of evaluation and research. Recent research projects have focused on disability-inclusive evaluation and increasing evaluators’ intentions to include individuals with disabilities as stakeholders in the evaluation process. Her current research projects focus on the social identities and social justice orientations of professional evaluators and researchers.

Fun fact: She and her family have around 2500+ books in their home library.
