Samuel Nduka was born in Enugu state, Nigeria and raised by his grandmother after his mother died. He moved to Ibadan, Nigeria, and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in his twenties, drawn to the solemn worship services which were so different from those of other churches. After joining the church, he served a mission and then married a woman of a different tribe – a difficult thing due to familial opposition. They had eight children, but lost three of them.

Samuel has worked at a number of different jobs and is now a part-time driver for the Ibadan Mission. Finding steady work is a struggle in Nigeria, he says, and Nigerians must be diligent workers and constantly looking out for new opportunities to make ends meet.

As a counselor in the bishopric, he would love to see his ward grow more united and committed. Retention is a struggle, and he believes that with more love and service, they can retain more members.
