When I first heard about the LDS church, it was not good because people said that it’s an evil church who forced their members to pray naked and to practice polygamy. When the missionary came to our house, it was my husband who welcomed them. As a deacon, I didn’t like the LDS church at that time. I hated the Book of Mormon because of the sentence on its cover which says, “Another Testimony of Jesus Christ.” What surprised me most was to see my husband change because of the missionaries’ teachings. He stopped drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes. There was a time when I came with him to attend church. I realized that the rumors about the LDS church weren’t true. So, I became convinced about the LDS church, especially about the teaching because it’s very complete.
What I find attractive about the religion is its promise which says that we can live forever with our family. This affirmation from the church is very important for me because I love my family so much. Moreover, the church gives importance to family. Most of my friends and neighbors hate the LDS church because they consider it an American religion and a sect. It’s a fake church for them.
…most of my family and relatives stayed away from me. They always said, “You are praying to foreigners instead of following our own ancestry tradition.” In the past, they used to be tough on me but because I always continue to be humble and show love to them, they respect me now. We have a good relationship.
