A difficult decision …. Well, a difficult decision we made that I can think of was when I was about to get a C-section.

It was difficult because there was a choice between having a [post-partum] sterilization or not. If they didn’t do this, it could be dangerous for me to have a third baby, according to medical science. The doctor told me that if I didn’t do it, I could have serious pre-eclampsia, which is a very serious condition if I chose not to have the surgery. He said we had to decide or I would be at risk of losing the baby or dying myself. So, we had to choose to have a sterilization procedure.

When I had my first baby, I became very ill. They had to do a blood transfusion, and I stayed in the hospital for about ten days. Later on, when I got pregnant with Nicol, again I got the same preeclampsia.

…I had the same condition so the doctor came and said that I had two choices, [the operation] or I could take the risk. So, I had two choices, and the risk was that one of us could die, or I could end up with serious consequences, like being in a coma, or the child could die. I could bleed all over the place or remain as a vegetable, or the child could die, or I could live. So we had to decide if we should get the operation. This was one of the most difficult decisions [we faced].
