My family was not happy about it, when I got baptized. They were ok, while the missionaries coming and taught me, but when I told them I wanted to be baptized in that church, they were very disappointed because I was throwing away tradition. My father wanted to set some rules, like the missionaries cannot come, it went to the point when I told him, ok if they cannot come when I want them to come, I’m just gonna move out. It obviously did not happen. They did not really know about the church, they were not crazy religious, sometimes they went to church but especially my dad was more of an Easter-Christmas guy.
My mom went to church, Catholic masses every Sunday.
It was just, they saw something I was throwing away. You know it is multiple generations were in the same religion and I was just throwing away. That was I thing their biggest problem. And then a year later when I decided to serve a mission that did not help either. It was really hard on them, especially when we find out that I was going to serve in San Diego, California and a year and a half away from home. That was really hard for them. It was interesting because at the same time it opened them up. They had the missionaries have over for dinner multiple times because they were thinking that someone else is doing the same for their daughter. So they, especially my dad very opened up. They never became a member but he really opened up for the missionaries up to this day, he gives them money or invites them over dinner.
