Art and culture in Los Angeles are on the move, pushing past the conventional, beyond institutional frames, and out of bounds. Art is happening everywhere. In public. On the street. By the river. On the beach. In the desert.
Public art and location-based cultural events are playing a bigger and more important role in Southern California. Museums and cultural organizations are increasingly affiliates, rather than centers. But who is in charge, and who is being served and supported? What is the role of the art and cultural institution in this new, extra-territorial world?
Join us on Saturday, April 8, 2017, for a powerful and provocative look at art’s changing identity in Southern California during this year’s LA as LAB conference, held on the Claremont Graduate University campus.
