In 2005, we recruited a panel of 1,365 students from across the United States. The students were drawn from 45 colleges and universities, including private and public, small and large. Some of the campuses had funded RISE programs, and others were similar matched campuses but without funded training programs. When we started, all of the students were majoring in science, and all expressed an interest in pursuing a career in science.
